Laying Ground
2022
75 mins, film
I’ve been exploring how to expand and inhabit time more deeply through the rhythms of clay and water in my practice. The film, Laying Ground, began from a desire to not simply document a material performance, but to reopen that time for practicing attention. Engaging with the writing of Lee Carruthers, this work foregrounds cinematic time as an active process of engagement, something we actively do as viewers, instead of something secondary to the narrative. This film is also an invitation to slip from the rush of capitalist time, and experience deep time held within geological cycles and intimate gestures of touch.
