Mute Tumult
Wax, Pastel, Paper, Wood
2017
Wardrobes and drawers are regions of privacy in our homes, hiding places for significant objects – the key to our first home, tokens of love, diaries, letters.
I drew these forms with thin pastel lines, layering them on one by one, almost as though I was weaving a cocoon. The process of making these detailed, repetitive drawings comfort me when I’m overwhelmed by strong emotions. After I’m done, I keep them stacked in a drawer until I’m ready to revisit them again.
But like all other memories, these emotions begin to loose their clarity and hard edge with the passing of time. Sometimes, when I take out these forms to look at them again, I notice that a blurry film has started to cling onto their surface.
